Important
Notice from the Editors
Himal Southasian
magazine, which suspended publication in May 2004,
is set to resume publication with a 'reintroductory
issue' in June 2005. This issue will be mailed
out to the magazine's subscribers as well as a
large sampling of our target audience of decision-
and opinion-makers throughout the Southasian region.
The magazine will enter continuous publication
as a monthly periodical in October 2005.
We have spent the last year in reorganising the
magazine, knowing that our formula of what makes
a magazine 'Southasian' is on the mark. While
maintaining the humanist sensibility and journalistic
presentation that have remained a constant since
Himal started as a Himalayan magazine in 1989,
we nevertheless will be making adjustments in
order to make the magazine more readable and accessible.
Always, the focus will be on what will benefit
the people at large in a region which hosts a
fifth of humanity.
If you would like a copy of this special 'reintroductory
issue', please write with your full mailing address
to editors@himalmag.com

ESSAY
Satyajit's
Sansar
There
is more to the man than his films. Satyajit Ray's
philosophy towards life and inter-personal relationships
is etched in each frame of his movies, which eventually
made him the prototypical Southasian humanist.
