It's lazy and/or partisan journalism that is part of the reason for the global warming hype. Sorry, it is now climate change isn't it? Climate change is a natural phenomenon. The real question is whether and how much human activities affect the climate and whether anything meaningful can be done about it.
The interesting thing is the solution proposed for the "problem"and who stands to gain from it. Carbon trading. The logic of carbon trading is the same logic as that of the selling of indulgences by the Catholic church a few hundred years ago. The impact of carbon trading on carbon emissions will be the same as the impact of selling indulgences had on sin.
If the industrialised countries are really serious they can prove it by reducing their pollution to the current global average in a fixed number of years and then ask the rest of the world to follow.
The man made global warming issue is primarily a political issue and not a scientific one. I would venture to say that if the man made global warming thesis was presented by an undergraduate student as his thesis he would flunk.
Let's see if Himal can do any better.

Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth is conveniently full of untruth, and was deemed political in a UK
court, yet you still quote it as gospel. CO2 is not a global thermostat that can be turned on and off.
Whilst the claim of 2500 scientists is often quoted it is a distortion. Pachari is a railway engineer and economist turned bureaucrat. NGO\'s are part of the process and helped write the Summary for policy makers, which is written befoe the science reports come out.
Global warming is scandalously over-hyped with no correction of inaccurate reports, eg hockey stick graph, arctic ice, polarbear populations, etc. In most cases reporting is simply a re-hash of press feeds from the advocates.
