Position Description:
The Department of Media Studies and Journalism at ULAB, Dhaka invites applications for a tenure-track open rank position in Media Studies and Journalism focused on the study of these subjects a in global perspective.
The applicant's research should examine media or journalism in relation to theories of globalization, and transnationalism that cover identity, gender, race, ethnicity, and nationality. The department is interested in developing scholarship that takes into account the relationship between the local and the global in a national mediasphere.
Responsibilities of the position will include administering the Department of Media Studies and Journalism and participation in all academic committees of the university as well as active pursuit of research, publication and/or creative work; graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate curricula in Media Studies and provide academic leadership in a growing area in a developing nation.
Specific courses the candidate should be able to teach may include the following: at the undergraduate level global communication, media history, textual analysis and the relationship between technology and society. An ability to contribute to the journalism program is also desirable. Prior experience in teaching within the liberal arts framework is also expected.
Qualifications:
The position is open to scholars and media practitioners. A Ph.D. is required.
Experience in teaching in a university setting, demonstrated ability to mentor and challenge students of diverse backgrounds, collegiality, openness to new ideas, and demonstrated intellectual and administrative leadership are desirable. Rank/Salary:
Level of appointment and a favourable salary will be determined by the candidate's qualifications and professional experience.
