Comments For 'Winning the war...at a price'

We need many voices, many points of view. If the peoples of the different communities do not trust each other, if the basis for trust is not built, it only strengthens the prospects for autocratic, possibly harsh rule. There are many reasons for distrust, for deep hurt and strong angers. However, at some point each individual has the choice to add her voice and energy to stop the killing and start rebuilding. If we cannot give this example to our children, we will give them the other, the reasons to continue to kill and destroy. There are enough graveyards for the youth dead before their time. The reasons for the killing are not unimportant, but they might not be most important to help us stop and start building. This lesson is a hard one and we have to learn it, faster the better.

As you may or may not know... the tamil have been protesting in Toronto. Depending on the news source anywhere from 30 thousand to 50 million. Really i don't give a damn. All i know is they are on the terror list. This makes them terrorists. I missed my train and had to wait 30 minutes for the next train. So my solution is nuke the whole island and give the land to either Isreal or Plalestine. This would solve two problems at once.

1. Responsibility to protect situation in Sri Lanka - International intervention is needed. 2. Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity - Sri Lankan President should be Tried for Crimes against Humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC). 3. UN Human rights monitoring in Sri Lanka - Monitoring missions under the UN umbrella is needed to curb atrocious human rights abuse in Sri Lanka.

This is a well written article which presents the current situation in a historical and fairly well balanced context. It looks to the future and sees that there must be some kind of common ground found between the two ethnic groups. A united, economically strong and peaceful Sri Lanka will never take place unless both sides make concessions. The single minded, jingoistic, intolerant and the religious fascist will have to be persuaded that their ideas of destroying free speech and a destruction of common ground is the reason why Sri Lanka is war striven and poor. I make these comments as an observer. There is a need for people to step away and look at the situation from a distance.

This is a one sided bullshit story, a typical LTTE , one sided terror sympathaizer story, what you failed to mention is that the curse brought in by the LLTE for the last 30 years, oh, please, write someting what this terror group had done for the beautiful counrty, or just shut up, keep your mouth closed, either you are with them or with us, it's your choice.

Girija Prasad Koirala, (1925-2010),  four-time prime minister of Nepal, died just after noon on 20 March after a protracted illness. Credited with sculpting the peace deal that ended the decade-long Maoist insurgency, GP Koirala’s political career spanning more than 60 years is also a history of the movement for democracy in Nepal.
