Comments Policy

Himal Southasian hopes our website will provide a platform for discussions and debates on the articles we publish and on the Southasian issues in general. We want our readers to feel safe and encouraged enough to post comments and contribute to pertinent, lively and intelligent discussions.

Comments will have to be approved by Himal Southasian moderators before they are published. We understand that you want to be an immediate participant in a discussion; however, in order to avoid spam and abusive comments, we will review each comment before it is published.

We will not tolerate any personal attacks or derogatory remarks on authors, Himal Southasian editors and moderators, fellow commenters or any other individual. We believe that intelligent discussions focus on the topics at hand.

We will only approve constructive criticisms of articles. We do welcome approvals and dissent; however, we believe that simply stating that you either like or dislike an article without backing it up with an argument or clarification does not facilitate lively discussion. Such comments will be taken as spam.

Please keep the comments relevant to the articles at hand. Discussions can have ramifications on several topics and issues not touched upon by the article, but we believe in keeping the discussions focused on the original topic. Moderators will use their discretion in deleting irrelevant comments.

Racism, sexism, homophobia or any divisive comments that go against Himal Southasian’s founding principle of bringing Southasia together as a region will be deleted. We accept criticisms of communities, organisations and governments on the basis of their actions, beliefs, opinions and philosophy, but personal criticisms on the basis of race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, nationality, and any other discriminatory criteria will be removed.

We request our discussants to be civil and polite in their comments. Swear words will be censored ([censored] will replace the word) and in some cases, the comment itself might be removed.

Comments advertising products and other spam will be deleted.

Happy commenting!
