From all of the team at Himal Southasian: Happy Southasian Heritage Month! At Himal we live and breathe Southasia every month of the year, but the occasion gives us extra reason to reflect on the region and celebrate its people – and to remind you, Southasia and Southasians everywhere why Himal matters to us all.

Our little magazine is fighting a big fight. We’ve got an editorial team of just six people striving to cover (as best we can) a full quarter of the world’s population. We’ve got no big-budget corporate ownership or government funding, but we have faith in Southasians like you paying to support our independent journalism. And while our governments and politicians so often push the politics of division, we have faith in a fairer, freer future that all Southasians can share.
