An introduction of Himal Fiction Fest's 2026 selections and a dialogue between translators

Translation, representation and the politics of language in Southasia: A conversation with Deepa Bhasthi and Parwana Fayyaz

Translation is often described as a bridge between languages, but it is also shaped by questions of power, history, identity and access. In this conversation, the International Booker Prize-winning writer and translator Deepa Bhasthi and the poet, scholar and translator Parwana Fayyaz will reflect on the practice and politics of literary translation in Southasia and beyond. Drawing on their work across Kannada, Dari, Pashto and English, they will discuss multilingualism, linguistic hierarchies, women’s voices and the futures of translation.

The winner of the 2026 Armory Square Prize will also be announced at the event. Register for the event using this link.
