SONGS OF SORROW, SONGS OF JOY

SPARROW is the only womens archives that is collecting print, visual and oral history material on womens history and experience. It was set up as a trust in 1988 and has since then been doing pioneering work in this field to generate and disseminate knowledge about womens life and history in
innovative ways. If you visit its website , you will get an idea of the kind of work SPARROW does. SPARROW now has abuilding of its own and is working towards stabilizing itself financially to continue its work of documenting womens life and history.

SPARROW is planning a series of efforts to raise a modest corpus of 5 crores. Currently, as a first step in this series, it is working to raise a sum of Rs. 25, 00, 000 for the SPARROW  corpus fund  so that SPARROW can free itself of financial constraints and  expand  the scope of its work. Towards this, Anupa Mehta of ArtWorks has conceived of an art raffle of artists books and paintings entitled "Songs of Sorrow, Songs of Joy". Verve and The Bhau Daji Lad Museum are lending their support to this project as Media and Ad and Venue partners.

Intimate art works – water colours and artists books – have been donated by nearly 50 women artists for the cause. Raffle tickets are priced at Rs.25, 000. A ticket could win you a painting by an eminent artist and the ticket amount would be treated as a donation and will qualify for income tax exemption under Sec.80G (1) of IT Act 1961.
